Welcome to splitmybills.in ("we", "us", "our"), an India-first expense splitting web application operated by Antarya Technologies, based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use splitmybills.in (the "Service"). It is compliant with the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011 ("SPDI Rules"), and other applicable Indian laws.
By using the Service, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in this Policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the Service. We do not collect browsing history, location data, contacts, or any data unrelated to expense splitting. Here is exactly what we collect and why:
2.1 Account Information
- Full name (provided by you during signup)
- Email address (for email OTP login)
- Mobile phone number (for phone OTP login, where available)
- Profile photo (optional, uploaded by you)
2.2 Device & Technical Data
- Browser type and version
- Device type (mobile, desktop)
- IP address (logged by our hosting provider, Vercel)
- Push notification subscription tokens (if you opt in to notifications)
2.3 Payment Information
Pro plan payments are processed entirely by Razorpay, a PCI-DSS compliant payment gateway. We do not store your card numbers, UPI IDs, or bank account details on our servers. Only a Razorpay payment ID and subscription status are stored.

- To create and manage your account
- To provide the expense splitting and bill management features
- To send OTP codes for login verification
- To send push notifications about group activity (only if you opt in)
- To process receipt images through OCR for quick expense entry
- To generate UPI payment links for settlements
- To respond to your support or grievance requests
- To process Pro plan payments via Razorpay
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes.
4. Third-Party Service Providers
To operate splitmybills.in, we work with a small number of carefully chosen third-party service providers. Each provider receives only the specific data needed for their function — nothing more. All providers are contractually bound to protect your data and may not use it for any other purpose.
Cloud database & file storage
Stores your account profile, groups, expenses, and any files you upload (receipts, avatar). Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Data involved: Your name, email, and the data you enter into the app.
Web hosting
Serves the application to your browser. Standard server logs are generated automatically.
Data involved: IP address and browser request logs (no personal content).
SMS delivery
Sends the one-time password (OTP) to your mobile number when you sign in. Used solely for login verification.
Data involved: Your mobile number — only at the moment of sending the OTP.
Email delivery
Sends the one-time password (OTP) to your email address when you sign in. Used solely for login verification.
Data involved: Your email address — only at the moment of sending the OTP.
AI-assisted receipt scanning (OCR)
When you photograph a receipt to auto-fill expense details, the image is sent to an AI service for text recognition. The image is processed in real-time and is not stored or used for training.
Data involved: The receipt image — processed immediately, not retained.
Payment processing
Pro plan payments are handled by Razorpay, a PCI-DSS compliant payment processor. We never store your card number, UPI ID, or bank credentials on our servers.
Data involved: Name and email for the payment receipt; payment credentials go directly to Razorpay.
5. Cookies
We use session cookies only, managed by Supabase Auth, to keep you logged in across page visits. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party tracking scripts.
You can clear cookies from your browser settings at any time. Clearing session cookies will log you out of the Service.
6. Data Retention
- Your account and all associated data are retained while your account remains active.
- If you request account deletion, your personal data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
- Anonymised, aggregated usage statistics (no personally identifiable information) may be retained indefinitely.
- Server access logs retained by Vercel are subject to their own retention policies.
7. Data Security
- All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS encryption).
- Database access is protected by Supabase Row Level Security (RLS) policies — you can only access your own data.
- We follow reasonable security practices as required under the SPDI Rules, 2011.
- No system can guarantee 100% security. In the event of a data breach, we will notify affected users as required by law.
8. Your Rights
Under the SPDI Rules, 2011, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Withdraw consent for collection and processing (note: this may limit your ability to use the Service)
- Delete your account and associated personal data

9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated policy will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For material changes, we will notify you via email or an in-app notice.
