Trip Expense Tracker

One person pays. Everyone settles at the end. Zero confusion.

Perfect for Indian group trips — create a "Goa Trip 2026" group, set a ₹30K budget, log kitty contributions from each member, and let the app calculate who owes what. The final settle-up shows only the true remaining amount — no double counting.

How it works

From group creation to final settlement in four steps

01

Create a trip group with a budget

Select "With others", name your group "Goa Trip 2026", pick the Trip type, and optionally set a trip budget (e.g. ₹30,000). You'll get push alerts at 75% and 90% spend. Add a description like "Beach trip with college friends".

Why you'll love it

  • Trip Kitty — log advance cash or UPI contributions (Atharv ₹5K, Yash ₹3K). Balances auto-adjust so the final settlement shows only the true remaining amount.
  • Placeholder members — add Yash, Anya, Atharv, and Priya by name without them needing an account. Share the invite link via WhatsApp so they can join later.
  • Trip budget with alerts — set a ₹30,000 budget and see progress at a glance. Push notifications fire at 75% (₹22.5K) and 90% (₹27K) spend.
  • Smart debt simplification — Anya's ₹6,212 debt is split into just 3 transfers to clear the whole group, minimising back-and-forth payments.
  • WhatsApp balance summary — tap Share Summary to send a full breakdown of member balances and pending settlements directly to any WhatsApp chat.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Trip Kitty feature?

In Indian group trips, one person (the treasurer) pays for everything while others hand over cash or transfer money upfront. Trip Kitty lets you log these advance contributions — for example Atharv paid ₹5,000 cash and Yash paid ₹3,000 via UPI to Anya. Balances automatically reflect what's left, so the final settle-up shows only the remaining amount, not the full share.

What if someone doesn't have the app?

Add them as a Placeholder member by name — Yash, Anya, Atharv, Priya. Their expenses are tracked and their balance is visible to the group. Share the invite link via WhatsApp or Copy link and they can join later to see their own balance.

Can I set a budget for the trip?

Yes — enter a trip budget (e.g. ₹30,000) when creating the group or edit it inline any time. A progress bar shows how much is spent (₹6.1K of ₹30K, 20%). You receive push notifications when the group hits 75% and 90% of the budget.

How does the Balances page work?

The Balances page shows every member's net position — green means they're owed money (+₹3,788 for Atharv), red means they owe (−₹6,212 for Anya). The Settle Up section calculates the minimum number of transfers to clear all debts.

Can I share the balance summary with the group?

Yes — tap "Share Summary" on the Balances page to send a WhatsApp message with the full member balance list and pending settlement transfers. The message includes a link back to splitmybills.in so anyone can settle directly.

Is this free?

Yes, trip groups are fully free. Trip Kitty, budget tracking, debt simplification, placeholder members, and WhatsApp sharing are all included at no cost.
